The Lease
The water associated with Little Forks Lodge is leased from the province of New Brunswick through public auction and grants the lessee exclusive fishing rights for 13.5 KM of the River. The lease includes parts of both the Main Little Southwest Miramichi River and the North Branch of the Little Southwest Miramichi River, providing exciting opportunities to the avid fly fisherman.
With over 31 designated pools, fishing on this lease offers every opportunity to the fly fisherman. From narrow long pools of the North Branch, to the open river fishing of the Birches and Shorecamp brook pool.
There are seven very productive pools within 200m of the lodge. We have a jetty built out into the Elbow pool to provide a platform for instruction as well as offering some extra distance to the other side of the river. Most pools can be fished with hip waders and all are accessible by foot, offering vigorous exercise for those who wish to venture the upper stretches of the North Branch. The North Branch runs through a gorge from the Beaver pool to the point where it enters the main river. At times the walls of this gorge are 30m high. Pools on the North Branch are generally narrower than those on the main river but provide exciting fishing once the fish takes the fly. A walk path provides direction for the angler but care must be taken due to the rugged nature of the pathway.
These private waters and lodge have been used exclusively by their members and guests for over 90 years. The early season is characterized as trout season when Sea trout migrate up the river to the spawning grounds on the upper stretches of both rivers. These runs last anywhere from 10- 15 days.
